Was yesterday a Monday or what? On a normal basis things run pretty smoothly around our home. But yesterday was a doozie! We spent Sunday afternoon getting Big10 all packed and ready to go to Camp with his classmates early Monday morning. Hubby is still out of town, so it was just the three of us scurrying around to make sure everything was done and ready to go. Monday I dropped the kids off at school, {Big10 was leaving the school at 8:30 to head out for camp} and made it to work a few minutes early. Shortly after I arrived at work I received a call from the school nurse informing me that Baby G was throwing up and I needed to come pick her up as soon as possible.
I realized not long after baby G and I got home that she most certainly had a stomach virus. I immediately started to worry about big10, and I was just praying that he would not get sick too. Then it happened. . .
Shortly after 7:00pm I got a call from the Camp to let me know that Big10 was fine, but he was sick and would need to go home. I spoke to him on the phone for a moment and it was all he could do to speak without bursting into tears. Of course I started crying when I hung up the phone. He has been planning and looking forward to this trip for the entire school year. He has not been sick even one day all year, and now he gets sick on the big day!
I calmed myself down, put our supper in the fridge, grabbed a garbage can for the sick ones, put G in the car and headed out for the 1 1/2 hour trip. I had no idea where I was going, It was DARK and the wind was literally blowing so many leaves on the road and my windshield that I could hardly see. Of course for a full hour of the drive I had absolutely NO cell service. Not that I had anyone to call if I needed help anyway!!
I was a complete mess, thank goodness baby G fell asleep or she would have been scared to death.
FINALLY I came to a gas station. I was well into the next county before I reached the station. Up until that point, it was just dark, empty roads. Possibly the curviest road in America at that. It just so happened that the customer in front of me lived across the street from the camp, so he was able to give me excellent directions. I thanked him over and over and over, as if he had just paid me a million dollars. In my mind, he had just saved my life! After that, I made it to camp safely to get my boy. He was already sleeping in the "health hut". Bless his heart, he was SO sad about leaving. It just breaks my heart that this happened.
Today we made a run into town to get big10's Halloween mask and the radio was talking about the severe weather situation continually. They had mentioned a tornado watch for the remainder of the day. On the way home they stated that Walker County was under a tornado warning, and that an actual tornado had been spotted. The camp is in Walker County.
That little tidbit of information made the two of us feel better. I am glad that he is here with me, and I do not have to worry about the weather situation.
In happier news, the husband is on his way home as I type. This post was just interrupted with his phone call. They lost his luggage, which means no bow hunting until it is returned. He is upset about it, it makes me happy because that means he has more time to spend with us and get caught up on everything that has happened over the past week. You just don't realize how much can actually occur in a weeks time, nor how badly two parents are needed in a family. We have missed him, and I hope he is feeling refreshed and ready to dive back into the chaos with us!! I'd be willing to bet that he is NOT ready.
