Weekend DIY Projects

In my last post I mentioned that I worked on a new project this past weekend. I actually have two project's to share with you. I am going to link this post to Kimba's DIY Thursday blog party when she gets it up. She has a great blog, you should check it out at A Soft Place To Land.

So, are you ready to see my results? The first project is the second chalkboard platter that I have made. The first one I made is alot smaller and now holds notes to the kids above the backpack station. From the very beginning I wanted a large platter like Shannon has here, and this one at Phillips Phamily Phive is GREAT too!! I finally acquired a large platter and got busy. And this is how it turned out. . . .

I like it, but I have GOT to get a stand for it. And, I can't seem to cover up the scroll design. Any ideas? You can only see it really close anyway, so this will do for me now.

Now for the big reveal. . . . .drum roll please. . . .. .

My burlap project!!

Tada!!!

How about that?!? Obviously it is not perfect, thank goodness I am not a perfectionist!

But I ♥ this little window treatment. This is the door that goes out to the garage. I can see it while I sit here at the desk in the bedroom. I think it is super cute! All in all this small curtain cost me under $5.00 and only took about 30 minutes to make. I'm sure it would not take that long for someone who knows how to use the scissors correctly. I just hemmed up the edges and a rod pocket using hemming tape. Then I tied the ribbon on once I had it hung on the door!! How simple is that?

Weekend Project

I spent alot of time cleaning, organizing, rearranging (& READING!!) this weekend, but I also managed to squeeze in a quick project. I purchased these two sweet birdies at the Dollar Tree. .

I have seen so many blogs where people have painted little birds white and they just look so GREAT!! Well, I tried. I must say that I am not the best spray painter. I have got to work on my skills, but they will do for now. Not too bad for a total of about $3.

Anyone who has been reading my blog will know that I bought this corner shelf a few months back. It started out in the kitchen, then it found a home in the living room, and now it is back to the kitchen. Sometimes I just can't make a decision to save my life!! I really like it here in the kitchen, and can use it to display a few of my new Ironstone platters. It is also home to my new white birdies!!

Also, I have been fiddling with the wall shelf on the other side of the kitchen table for months. I have finally found a look that I like on this shelf. I love all the accessories and I think hanging the plates really did it for me. I really like the way it looks!! Do you guy's like this look?

I am always needing help with my decorating choices, so please don't hesitate to comment and let me know if something looks hideous!! I'll take it as constructive criticism.

Moss Sphere Project

Hey Y'all!! Hope everyone is having a great week. Personally, I am thankful that we are half way done!!!
I mentioned on Sunday that I had a project that I found on another blog that I wanted to try. I have just now finished! Man, I am slow sometimes!! Well, I came across this great blog called Creations by Kara. Kara has thrifty projects and tons of ideas on her blog that I just love!! I decided I would try her moss sphere project. When I was on vacation I picked up a cute little urn for under a dollar, but I had no idea what to do with it. When I saw this project on Kara's blog, I knew this was the look I was going for. I went by the dollar tree and picked up some small styrofoam spheres, and a bag of green moss. I already had my glue sticks and glue gun, so this little project cost me under $3.00!! Now that's thrifty!! I really love the way it turned out, and it was just SO EASY!! If you like this look, you should definitely try it for yourself! Thanks Kara for sharing your instructions for this project with everyone!!

Here is a picture of my finished project. I think my sphere is a little fluffy compared to Kara's. I may go back and do a little more gluing on the moss. What do you think?



I also have some exciting stuff that I am working on. Monday night I met up with my sil's mom and she had a ton of old platters for me to look through. She got these from her grandmother, so they date WAY back! I told her that I have started trying to collect antique platters and she came through for me in a big way. I ended up getting 12 platters at $1 a piece. I am getting them cleaned up and ready to display. I am actually not sure where I am going to put them all, but I will share some pictures when I get them in place. Wish me luck!!
