Mt. Cheaha - Part Three

I had surgery on Wednesday, August 24th to have my gallbladder removed.  It's Sunday, I'm feeling much better and have declared today "blog catch up day".

Way back in May we went to Mt. Cheaha.  This is the third and final post to get all my pictures in,  After exploring the park and hiking all the trails, we left the park to hike three more waterfall trails that are part of the Talladega National Forest.  Right outside Mt. Cheaha state park.

The first trail we took led to Devil's Den.  We stopped for a picnic lunch before this hike in the park area right outside the trail.  This waterfall was close to the road, so was a really popular swimming hole.

The next trail led us to Cheaha Falls.  This was by far our favorite.  It was super quiet, we only passed a couple other people on the trail.  It was really beautiful.  Gray got in the water for a swim but it was FREEZING, so she only stayed long enough for pictures.

The last trail led to a series of three waterfalls.  High Falls.  You just keep hiking up each layer.  This one is supposed to be pretty spectacular, but I think the lack of rain had it running a little dry.  It was still worth the hike.  Along the way we saw some of the most amazing camping spots. Maybe one day we will brave camping without electricity.

All in all the trip was a lot of fun and I'm ready for our next Alabama adventure.  It was immediately too hot to do anymore hiking trips and still is too hot.  Maybe October or November we can squeeze a day trip in somewhere.

Tina
