New Orleans

This Summer Bobby and I celebrated our 23rd year of marriage.  So on the weekend of June 10th, we packed our duffel bag and headed off to New Orleans.  Just the two of us.

We arrived late Friday night.  We had reservations at B on Canal.  I had no idea what to expect, as we just picked a deal off of Hotels.com. But I was pleasantly surprised with the hotel and the room.  The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful as well.

On night one, we had dinner at the Gumbo Shop.  I had Red Beans and Rice, and Bobby had some Chicken gumbo.  We just shared and it was all wonderful!

On Saturday morning we woke up bright and early to brave the line at Cafe Beignet.  The line moved quickly and it was definitely worth it for the yummy sweet breakfast.  After the cafe, we strolled around the square.  I was looking for a couple of prints to purchase and found two that I liked.

The day was full of sight seeing and a whole lot of walking.

We also bought the day pass for the street cars and it may have been the best $6 we've ever spent.

We hopped on the St. Charles street car and went down to walk around the Garden District.

Bobby found the Coven house from American Horror Story.

We went to the art market on Frenchmen Street that night.  It is open from 7pm - 7am daily.  Local artist selling goods all night. :)

On Sunday, we woke up and had breakfast at Waffle House and went to the mall for a bit of shopping.  It was raining that day, so it was actually the perfect day to head back home.

I really enjoyed my first trip to New Orleans.  And I can hardly wait for our next trip with just the two of us.

Tallulah Gorge

Way back in March on our spring break trip to Helen, Georgia we made the trip to nearby Tallulah Gorge.  It is about 30 minutes from Helen, but definitely worth the short trip.  The hike has SO MANY stairs, so it is somewhat difficult for someone who is out of shape like me, but doable.  The views are extraordinary and well worth the jello like legs I had after climbing more than 1200 stairs.

The suspension bridge is beautiful.  Tanner was a bit nervous crossing the bridge.  Until this trip, I had no idea that he was afraid of heights.  He normally does not go hiking with us, so it has never come up.

We were able to do the whole trail around the entire gorge in less than three hours.  So you only need to plan for about half a day to make this happen.  The gift shop is really nice as well, and has a museum, nice restrooms, and a movie showing how the gorge was formed for those that are interested.

It was a great day for us, and I'm so glad my whole family was there to enjoy it with me.  Every trip feels like a possible "last" with Tanner preparing to go off to college in the fall.

Spring Break 2018-Helen, GA

This year Bobby and I were both off the entire week for Spring Break with the kids.  At the beginning of the week, we took a quick two day trip to Helen, GA.  I have wanted to visit Helen for a while now.  It is the cutest little down and was everything that I expected.  I would really love to go back during the peak season, or possibly during Christmas one year.

We had a lot of hiking planned, and a couple of destinations to visit.  In our down time we just strolled through town looking at all the shops.  And we spent entirely too much money at the candy store.

We did a BUNCH of hiking.  Lots and Lots of steps. . .

On our way out we stopped for our last quick hike to
Anna Ruby Falls.  It was a very short and easy hike, and the waterfall was just beautiful.  The gift shop was also very nice and the attendant was super helpful and friendly.

The trip was very laid back but so much fun and I am so glad that I could convince this crew to go with me.
